 |
Do
you give discounts on the registration of domain names?
|
| |
We
periodically send out newsletters to our members and
post it on our home page under news secton with the
details of our offers and promotional codes for you
to purchase domain names at discounted price. |
 |
Are
there any refunds on domain names? |
| |
There
are no returns on domain name registrations without
exception. You are required to make sure that you wish
to purchase the domain names in your shopping cart.
Once you click on "submit order" you are responsible
for the payment of the domain. Even in the event the
name is spelled incorrectly you are still responsible
for it. Please be very careful when registering names
to ensure the spelling is 100% accurate. Once the purchase
is completed it is 100% final |
 |
When
I purchased my domain name I set up URL Forwarding and
I elected to use my own DNS. Will my website forward
to that URL that I specified? |
| |
No,
because you are using your own DNS we don't have access
to this DNS and can't make any changes to your forwarding
settings. If you want your domain name to forward to
an URL you must use our name servers or have your web
host set up URL forwarding for you on their webserver. |
 |
I
received a message from the ordering system that my domain
name failed registration because of invalid name servers
(DNS), why? |
| |
If
your name servers (DNS) are entered incorrectly or aren't
registered you won't be able to use them to register
domain names through our site. You should use our default
name servers to register your domain name/s and then
later change the DNS to something else. You can always
change the DNS for your domain name at any time after
registration. |
 |
If
I register a domain name and use my on DNS (name servers)
will my domain name be active right away? |
| |
Your
domain name will be active within 48 hours from the
time of registration. Because the DNS takes 48 hours
to update it won't know your domain name is live until
this update. |
 |
I
already have a domain name registered - can I transfer
my domain to you? |
| |
Of
course you can. The transfer adds one year to the existing
expiry date of your domain.
You
get a FREE web placeholder page that will appear as
http://www.your-domain-name.com to
show your domain name is registered or you can take
out one of our great value web hosting / email packages.
You will get many fre services like Ftee URL forwarding
and Free Email forwarding |
 |
Somebody
has registered a domain name that is the same as a trademark
I own. What can I do? |
| |
First,
talk to a lawyer! Second, don't expect that you automatically
have the rights to that name.
The
issue is a very grey area at the moment. DON'T fire
off angry letters to the owner threatening all manner
of retribution unless they hand over the name. Get legal
advice instead. One more thing: InterNIC has a procedure
for filing complaints. Use it |
 |
Why
is there a "registrar lock" on my domain?
|
| |
When
first registered, all domains have the registrar lock
turned on by default. This prevents unauthorized transfers
by someone who gains access to your email. |
 |
How
can I find out who a given domain name is registered
to? |
| |
Simple.
Use "whois" to look up the name (see the answer
to the previous question, above). If the domain name
is registered, you will see the name and address of
the person or company to whom the name is registered.
Your
best bet if you want to contact the owner of a name
is to contact the person listed in the Administrative
Contact section of the information returned by whois. |
 |
Are
there restrictions over the structure of a domain name? |
| |
Domain
names must consist only of letters (a-z) and numbers
(0-9) - they may also contain the hyphen (-) symbol
but may NOT contain special characters like the "and"
symbol (&) or exclamation mark (!). Domain names
may not contain spaces or start or end with a hypen
(-). Domain
names cannot be more than 63 characters (excluding the
.com, .co.uk domain extension. |
 |
How
can I check information associated with my domain name,
such as my contact details? |
| |
You
can use a tool called whois to access the central Registry
database; this database contains details of every domain
name.
There
are many places around the Web where you can enter a
query to search the database. For example, you can use
the whois tool in the domains section of this site. |
 |
Why
is it dangerous to use a free email address when registering
a domain name? |
| |
There
are several potential problems associated with using
a free email address at the time you register your domain
name.
Firstly, the service may close down without warning
- this will leave you stranded when it comes to making
changes to the domain name or transferring it to another
Registrar, since you will no longer be able to receive
- and respond to - email confirmations. You'll also liable
to not receive reminder emails telling you that your
domain name is about to expire. Secondly, as public
services used by thousands or millions of people, free
email services are generally more susceptible to being
hacked. If a hacker were able to get into your email
account, he/she could make changes to your domain name
record without your knowledge or permission.
Finally,
some free email services delete inactive accounts after
a certain number of days or weeks. If you go on an extended
vacation away from your email, or for some other reason
forget to log in for a few months, you may find that
your email address has been deleted and re-allocated
to somebody else, giving them FULL control over your
domain name! |
 |
What
is a domain name and why should you register one?
|
| |
A
domain name is a "unique" name used to identify
and locate computers on the Internet.
Internet
domain names provide a system of easy-to-remember Internet
addresses which are translated by DNS (Domain Name Servers)
into numeric IP (Internet Protocol) addresses used by
the Internet. An Internet domain name is unique and
allows you to have an "identity" on the Internet.
Domain names are typically allocated by the domain registrars
on a "first come, first served" basis - currently
in excess of 100,000 domain names are being registered
per month! You should register your domain name NOW
as in the near future most of the memorable domain names
will have been taken and only obscure domain names will
remain. A domain name adds value to your Internet presence
and is therefore of great value to your organisation.
Remember domain names are not just for businesses or
organisations - many people register names for their
own personal use. If
you register a dmain name you could be:
Web
site address:
http://www.your-domain-name.com
Email
addresses:
This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
|
 |
What
should I be watching out for when I register a domain
name through a 3rd party such as a web design company
or web hosting service? |
| |
If
you've paid to register a domain name as part of a
wider package of services, it's essential to make
sure that YOU are in fact the owner of that domain
name. A few cases have been reported of web hosting
firms, for instance, registering domain names in their
own name rather than in their clients' name, to essentially
"trap" their client so that they are unable
to change hosting service. One way to avoid this is
to register your domain name independently of securing
other web services, and to make sure you register
it through a recognized Registrar.
|
 |
What
is the downside to having my hosting company or domain
name registrar as the technical contact for my domain
name? |
| |
Usually,
there's no problem with having the aforementioned entities
act as the technical contact for your domain. However,
a nasty situation can arise if the Registrar you are
using supports email authentication of domain name record
changes, and also supports Tech contact denials.
To
clarify: in some relatively rare cases, a Registrar
may require email confirmation of a requested modification
to a domain name record, such as a change of ownership
or a change of DNS servers. In this rare case, the email
confirmation that must be replied to affirmatively is
sent to BOTH the primary contact for the domain (the
Owner) and the technical contact for the domain. The
problem arises if the technical contact "denies"
the transaction by responding negatively to the email
before you as the Owner have a chance to respond affirmatively.
(For instance if a web hosting company is trying to
prevent you leaving their service)
Now,
it must be emphasized that the above case is RARE -
but it does happen. To protect yourself from such problems,
always make sure that YOU (or an entity you trust 100%)
is listed as the Technical contact for the domain name
- there is no valid reason why your web hosting provider
or Registrar MUST be your technical contact, even though
they may prefer to have things set up that way. |
 |
I
want to register a domain name that I know is the trademark
of a large company. Is this going to make me rich? |
| |
No.
This is going to make you the target of a lawsuit. The
problem is that two or three years ago, when the domain
market was much smaller and companies were just feeling
their way tentatively, it was indeed possible to turn
a quick profit by selling an unwary company its own
name back.
Now
companies have wised up, precedent has been set, and
you are likely, though not certain, to lose any ensuing
legal action. Don't waste your time and money, find
safer names. |
 |
I
don't have a website yet, why should I register a domain
now? |
| |
Domain
names are going at the rate of more than 200,000 a month.
Registering your domain name now ensures your ownership
of the domain name that may not otherwise be available
when you want it. Once registered, that domain name is
yours (provided that the registration and renewal fees
are paid each year). You can hold onto it, use it, sell
it or lease it. Xcluzive will store your domain name on
our servers free of charge until you are ready to do something
with it. |
 |
How
long is my domain name valid? |
| |
You
have the option of registering your domain name for 1-10
years. If you select 1 year, your name will be need to
be renewed annually in order to remain valid. If you select
multiple years, your name will remain valid until that
period is up. |
 |
I
own a domain name that is a trademark of a large company.
Can I sell it to them? |
| |
No!
If you approach a company with the intention of selling
them a domain name that infringes on one of their trademarks,
you are basically admitting that you registered the
domain name for that purpose i.e. to profit from a trademark
infringement.
This
is one of the easiest ways to lose a legal battle before
it has even started. Better to wait until the company
comes to you. Best not to get involved in trademark
disputes at all. |
 |
How
do I protect my internet identity? |
| |
Your
domain name is your internet identity, which will be searched
by people on the internet round the clock. To protect
your online identity, we recommend you register as many
variant on your company name as possible. Such as “samsbuilders.com”,
“sams-buiders.com”, and “sambuilder.com”.
We also recommend you register your name as each type
of domain. For example, “samsbuilders.co.uk”,
“samsbuilders.com”, “samsbuilders.org”.
|
 |
How
can I find out all the names a given company or person
owns? |
| |
There
is unfortunately no way to extract this information
from the Whois database at the present time. This search
limitation is by design, to stop companies abusing the
database by extracting names and addresses for marketing
purposes.
It's
also possible to buy a copy of the whole Whois database,
but this will set you back around $10,000. |
 |
"whois"
indicates that a domain name is "on hold". What
does that mean? |
| |
If
a domain name is "on hold", this means that
the name is not currently in the DNS database. This
in turn means that it is not possible to connect to
a website whose domain name is "on hold".
There are two main reasons why a given domain name may
be put "on hold". Either the domain name has
not been paid for, or somebody has raised a dispute
over the legal ownership of that name.
InterNIC's
current policy is to put domain names on hold if there
is any doubt over the legal validity of the name, and
then let the organizations concerned fight it out. If
you find that your domain name has been put on hold,
check that it is paid for. If so, then maybe someone
has filed a complaint about your name -- InterNIC is
not required to let you know of such an occurrence.
Check with them for more information. |
 |
Once
my domain name is registered, can anyone else take it? |
| |
Your
domain name is registered in your name. So long as it
has active DNS entries, all the required fees are paid
and it's not in breach of any law, nobody else can either
use it or take it without your consent. |
 |
How
can I make sure my registration information is secure? |
| |
Your
registration is submitted via our secure form. This form
encrypts all of your registration information, ensuring
the security of your transaction. |
 |
Can
I gift a domain name? |
| |
Yes
you can purchase any of our services as a gift. We believe
domain names make an excellent gift. Provide an ingenious
solution to the problem of what to get a friend or loved
one. There is no need to wander crowded shopping centers
and high streets. Purchasing a domain is easy and you
can do it now. |
 |
What
is propagation? |
| |
When
visitors type your domain name into their Web browsers,
their request is referred to a nameserver that indicates
the physical location (the IP address) of your domain
on the Internet. When your site location changes to
a new IP address, or when you deploy a new site with
a new domain name, nameservers around the world must
be notified of the change. This process of notification
is referred to as propagation.
Propagation
typically takes 48 to 72 hours. During this time, if
you are transferring your domain, some nameservers will
still refer to your site’s old location while
nameservers that have already been notified of the change
will refer to the new location. As a result, visitors
accessing your site may be directed to either the old
or new location, depending upon which nameserver they
connect to. If some visitors are still being directed
to your old site location after 72 hours have elapsed,
you should contact your previous Internet Presence Provider
and request that they update their DNS and delete your
domain from their servers. Once this has been done,
and this change has been completely propagated, the
transfer to your new location will be complete. If your
site is new, your site may not be recognized by all
nameservers until the propagation period has completed. |
 |
How
do I find out what my Domain Expiry Date is? |
| |
Your
domain expiry date is mentioned in the domain management
area of this site. You can renew (add years) as well from
there. Your domain expiration date can also be found by
checking the whois info of the domain, however this info
is not always current since it is updated once everyday. |
 |
How
will I know when my domain name registration is up for
renewal? |
| |
You
will receive an email notification (sent to the email
address for the domain's Administrative Contact) at
60, 45, 30, 15, 10, 5, 1, 0 days to the domain expiration
date. Additionally, the Domain Manager will indicate
domain name(s) due to expire within 45 days. You don't
have to wait for your domain name registration to expire
before you renew it. You can extend the term of your
domain name registration at any time by clicking on
the Renew Domain link in the user area. |
 |
Can
I renew my domain name registration term before my current
term is set to expire? |
| |
Yes,
you can renew your domain name registration at any time
during the registration term from your domain management
interface is user's area. Please note that your total
domain registration time can never exceed 10 years for
.com, .net, and .org domains and other TLDs have different
maximum time limit. |
 |
Can
I renew a domain name through you if it was originally
registered with Net4India or another registrar? |
| |
Yes.
However, you will need to do a Transfer of Registrar first.
The transfer will automatically add another year to your
domain registration expiration date. |
 |
My
domain name has already expired. Is there any way that
I can renew it? |
| |
If
you have accidentally allowed your domain name to expire,
you may still be able to renew it before it is deleted
and made available to the public. There is a grace period
of 19 days. |
 |
What
are the advantages of renewing domains with you? |
| |
we
are pleased to provide our valued customers with aggressive
rates on both single and multi-year registrations, unsurpassed
customer service and knowledgeable technical assistance.
Furthermore, as a Total Solutions Provider, Xcluzive
offers a variety of hosting and data services to provide
you with all your communications needs from a single
source. |
 |
What
is the redemption period? |
| |
Approximately
19 days after a domain name expires it goes into what
is called the redemption period. The redemption period
lasts for approximately 30 days. During this period
the domain name can be redeemed by the original registrant
for a regular renewal rate plus a redemption fee. This
fee is currently ten times the registration fee. If
the domain name is not redeemed it is deleted by the
registry and made available for registration. |
 |
I
received a message from the ordering system that my
domain name failed registration because of invalid name
servers (DNS), why? |
| |
If
your name servers (DNS) are entered incorrectly or aren't
registered you won't be able to use them to register
domain names through our site. You should use our default
name servers to register your domain name/s and then
later change the DNS to something else. You can always
change the DNS for your domain name at any time after
registration. |
 |
I
recently registered a domain name with you and it still
shows up as available for registration on another sites,
why? |
| |
Internic
issues your domain name in real time when you purchase
through us, so your domain name is taken. Not all whois
databases update in real time and some registrars might
rely on a whois database to register domain names. If
your domain name isn't in their whois database they
will think (for a few days) that it can be registered.
If you attempted to register this domain name it would
never register with the other site. The name has already
been issued and it isn't possible for another registrar
to issue the same domain again. |
 |
How
can I register a new domain? |
| |
All
new domain registrations and transfers must be ordered
through our website. Please first check the availability
of your domain using the domain lookup tool then click
on "order now" on the domain name registration
page. |
 |
I'm
thinking of registering a misspelling of a popular site's
domain name (example: Yahhoo.com, AOLL.com). Is that
a good idea? |
| |
This
is commonly known as "typosquatting" i.e.
buying a domain name with the expectation of siphoning
traffic off of the legitimate site by snaring people
who can't spell well. There have been a number of court
cases as a result of this kind of behavior - most were
decided in favor of the site owner. Ultimately, it's
your decision. |
 |
Who
owns the Domain Name I register? |
| |
You
become the owner of the domain name after we register
it. You are listed as both the Administrative and Billing
Contact. If anyone tries to move your domain or change
any information on the form, the registry will contact
you first. |
 |
When
will my newly registered domain name become active?
|
| |
Your
domain name will be active within 48 hours from the
time of registration. Because the DNS takes 48 hours
to update it won't know your domain name is live until
this update. |
 |
How
long is my registration good for? |
| |
Domain
registrations are for periods of one year. You can register
a domain for up to 10 years in advance however domain
registration fee's are non-refundable. Once a domain
is registered for a period of time it cannot be "un-registered"
or cancelled. We can only set it not to renew when it
is about to expire. |
 |
What
are the "hidden costs" of domain name ownership?
|
| |
It's
important to remember that a domain name is only "yours"
for as long as you keep paying the renewal fee. If you
keep a domain name for 5 years, you'll have to pay 5
separate fees. |
 |
If
I have a domain with you, can we still take email services
and web hosting from another service provider? |
| |
Yes,
you can. Xcluzive gives you complete flexibility to
pick and choose your services. However we don’t
really see why you would do that. |
 |
I'm
trying to register a domain name that I know has expired
but it shows as taken during registration, how can that
be? |
| |
When
a domain name expires that doesn't mean that the domain
name will be available for registration.
It
takes about 40-76 days for a domain to drop. When a
domain name still shows up in a whois lookup it means
that the domain name isn't available for registration
because the registrar hasn't released it. |
 |
The
domain I want to register is expired. When can I register
the domain? |
| |
Most
registrars hold domains for between 40 and 45 days as
a grace period after they expire. This gives the current
registrant one final opportunity to renew their domain.
After the 45 days, the domain will be deleted by the
registrar and go into a "redemption" period
of 30 days. After this period has elapsed, the domain
will go into "pending-delete hold" for an
additional 5 days. At the end of this time the domain
will be dropped from the registry and become available
for registration. |
 |
Can
an existing domain be replaced by another domain name
at no additional cost? |
| |
No.
Each domain name is independent. Once registered, a
domain name is a stand-alone entity and cannot be replaced.
If another domain name is needed, it requires its own
registration. |
 |
Somebody
else has already registered the domain name I wanted.
What can I do? |
| |
You
can offer to buy the name off its current owner, or
look for an alternative domain name. If your company
holds a trademark on the terms in the domain name, it
may be worth seeking legal advice about the possibility
of recovering your domain name. |
 |
What
happens if someone else has applied for the same domain
name as me, and their application is pending? |
| |
Although
the information returned by a Whois search is only updated
once or twice a day, domain names that have been purchased
are essentially "locked" instantly so that
they cannot accidentally be sold to two separate parties.
In other words, even if somebody beat you to a domain
name by just 1 second, you're out of luck - and in a
day or so you'll be able to see their ownership details
through the Whois tool. |
 |
Can
I register a domain name even if I don't have a website?
|
| |
No
problem. We offer a free "parking service"
for domain names. We will make all the arrangements
you need to ensure that the domain name is reserved
for you. At a future date you can "point"
the domain name at a website by changing the name servers
of the domain as per your hosting company's need. |
 |
Can
I cancel a registration after submitting the form?
|
| |
Once
the registration process has been initiated it can't
be canceled, so choose your domains wisely. |
 |
How
can I be sure the domain name I requested has been registered
to me? |
| |
You
will receive an email confirmation of your domain name
registration once it is complete. You can also login
into your account and see that your name has been added
to your account management area.. |
 |
I
want to buy a domain, but I don't want to move my existing
site from its current location at [long URL]. What can
I do? |
| |
With
every domain we offer free "website forwarding"
- i.e. a service that will automatically redirect visitors
from your new domain name to your existing URL. |
 |
I'm
thinking of registering the ".org" of a well-known
.com domain name. Is that a good idea? |
| |
While
this tactic may get you some "free" traffic,
it's also a great recipe for a lawsuit. If the .com
domain is trademarked, it's better to steer clear of
trouble. If the .com domain is "generic" (that
is, it is a dictionary word which is not trademarked)
then you're safer. Ultimately, it's your decision. |
 |
What
if I misspelled my domain name? |
| |
Be
VERY careful when registering your domain name. Once
you purchase your domain, the order is non-refundable. |
 |
How
does a domain transfer work? |
| |
Start
by placing an order for a domain transfer through our
website. When we receive and process the order, the
transfer will be initiated. You will receive an email
from us at the administrative contact address as listed
in the whois info for the domain. Please follow the
instructions on this email. You will then receive an
email from the losing registrar - again, follow the
instructions. This process must be completed within
10 days or the order will be cancelled. If all emails
are received and answered quickly the process usually
takes about 3 days. Each registrar has their own policies
concerning transfers away to another registrar. It is
a good idea to contact your current registrar in order
to make yourself familiar with their policies in order
to avoid potential delays. Some registrars have a lock
against transfers that must be removed before a request
can be submitted and some may send a verification email
to verify the transfer away. |
 |
I
just registered my domain last week. Can I still transfer
it? |
| |
Domain
names cannot be transferred within the first 60 days
of initial registration. |
 |
My
domain is about to expire or has already expired, can
I still transfer it to you? |
| |
If
the domain is within 30 days of expiration, it may be
difficult to transfer depending on the policy of the
losing registrar. If the domain has expired a transfer
will not be possible. An expired domain should be renewed
with the current registrar. |
 |
What
if the transfer fails? |
| |
After
we investigate the cause of the failure and correct
the problem, we will be happy to initiate the transfer
again. You will not be charged until your transfer is
complete. |
 |
I
have my domain registered with you how do I transfer
it elsewhere ? |
| |
You
are free to transfer your domain at any time after the
initial 60 day period as long as your account is in
good standing. Please remove the registrar lock from
your domain control panel and note down your "EPP
Code" if the TLD requires one. There is no charge
to transfer a domain away from us. |
 |
I
have a several hundred domain names and I would like
to transfer them to you. Will I get a special price
and will you help me with the transfer if I need help?
|
| |
We
have many clients who have transferred several hundred
domain names to us. If you have several hundred domain
names to transfer, after you create an account with
us, generate a support ticket and include the list of
domain names to be transferred and we will specially
process all of your domain transfers for you on your
behalf. |
 |
Will
my website go down when the transfer is complete? |
| |
Your
website will continue to use the same dns servers after
the transfer is complete, therefore you will not experience
any downtime and your domain will still use the previous
dns settings for www, ftp, mail etc. If you are starting
hosting service with us, please contact our support
team to assist you with a dns server change. |
 |
What
does it mean to transfer registrars? |
| |
If
you already own a domain, you registered it using a
domain name registrar. By using our Transfer Registrar
tool, you are simply transferring your domain from the
registrar you originally registered with and making
us the registrar of record. (Please note, there is a
60-day transfer hold - which means you have to wait
two months from the initial registration before you
can transfer your domain.) |
 |
What
should I do first before I apply for my domain name
transfer? |
| |
Make
sure that the email address on your current domain record
is correct. One of the most common reasons for domain
transfer to fail, is an old or incorrect email address
for the administrative contact of your domain name on
the whois record with the current registrar. Then check
if the registrar-lock is removed and you have the correct
EPP code (required in some TLDs). |
 |
How
much does it cost to transfer a domain? |
| |
There
is no "Transfer Fee" when transferring a domain
to us. However, you will be charged a one year registration
fee just like a new domain.
This
adds a year to the current registration period of your
domain. For example if your domain expires on Jan 1st,
2007, and you transfer it to us, you will be charged
the regular one year registration fee, and your domain
will now expire on Jan 1st, 2008. |
 |
What
is the use of Transfer Status link in the menu? |
| |
You
can use the Transfer Status tool to manage your domain
transfer away from your previous registrar to our system.
Access the Manage section through our Member Login with
your username and password, and select the Transfer
Status link. Your domain transfers will appear.
Some
of the most common reasons for your prior registrar
denying the transfer include:
Not
answering their confirmation email in time.
Not answering their confirmation email in the proper
format.
The domain is expired or otherwise locked due to nonpayment. |
 |
How
do I transfer/sell my domain to a third party? |

If
the third party would like to continue registration
service with xcluzive - please contact us and provide
the new contact/billing information for the domain and
have the new party contact us to accept the domain and
create a new account with us. There are no additional
costs to transfer ownership but the third party may
not be able to receive the same pricing level as you
are currently. If the third party is going to transfer
the domain to another registrar, you must contact us
to clear any balances on your account. |

Why
would I want to transfer registrars? |
| |
When
you registered your domain you probably paid up to $70.00
to reserve it. Now that it is coming due, you can save
yourself some money by taking advantage of our extremely
low transfer prices. In addition, once the transfer
is complete, you will be able to easily manage your
domain by using our secure online manager. |
